Many years ago there was a king of Persia called Ahashverosh. The king’s advisor and confidante, Haman, advised the king to destroy all the Jews in the Kingdom. What the king didn’t know was that Haman also planned to revolt against him and take over the kingdom. Luckily, the king’s Jewish wife, the beautiful Ester, had a clever uncle, Mordechai, who knew about the revolt and devised a plan to foil Haman and save the Jews. Since then, every year on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, we celebrate the festival of Purim with much rejoicing, and we read the scroll od Ester which relates the story.

The Megila is rolled on an olive wood core and comes packed in a linen pouch.
